Next follows a short ascent to a saddle Gatterl where there is also the border between Austria and Germany. At the ascent to a saddle the slope is a little steeper and there are also some steel cables for help. From the saddle, we slightly descend and a view opens up towards the valley Reintal and towards the summit Zugspitze.

Tirolerhaus geöffnet Route Von der Ehrwalder Alm aus geht es über die Pestkapelle und auf dem Max-Klotz-Steig vorbei an der Hochfeldernalm über Almgelände und durch Latschenbestände zum Brandjoch (2.120 m). Man folgt dem Steig leicht fallend zum Feldernjöchl (2.041 m).

Thanks to two mountain railroads, even less experienced hikers can venture the Gatterl tour to the Zugspitze.

The circular tour over the Gatterl to the Zugspitze requires some logistical planning. The best way to start by car or bus is from the Ehrwalder Almbahn. The hike starts at the Ehrwalder Almbahn mountain station (1500m). A road leads towards Gatterl, past the plague chapel on the left and now uphill on the Max-Klotz-Steig at the Hochfeldern Alm.
